I’ll admit, I am not really on the Chip and Joanna Fixer Upper train. However, I do have to say that I love her Magnolia collection and her beautiful Instagram and we were only an hour and a half away from Waco. So I wanted to go check out Waco and see the Silos. We decided to take a day trip! This was our itinerary for our quick day trip:
- Health Camp diner for lunch
- Magnolia market and Silos bakery
- Spice Market
- City with a soul street art
- Dr Pepper Museum
Our trip started with eating lunch at Health Camp, a little dinner off the highway that serves burgers, fries and shakes.
They have been around since 1948 and have high reviews on google and there is a good reason! They had delicious and juicy burgers and crunchy onion rings (that my husband said were the best he ever had).
I went for the grilled cheese and onion rings. While my husband went for the double cheeseburger and tator tots.
My husband was in heaven with his food choice. I’ve learned if I give him cheeseburgers he will be super happy haha.
We loved the local feel to the restaurant and the staff were as sweet as can be. We went as soon as they opened (they are open Monday-Sunday 11am to 9pm) and the diner already began to fill up within 15 minutes.
Up next were the Silos to hit up the Magnolia store and Silos baking co. I had to hold myself back from buying everything in the store! If you get excited about their Target brand, then you need to hit up the Magnolia market! Everything was so cute! Stayed tuned for a future blog on just what we did at the Silos!
Afterwards we hit up the Silos Baking Co. for some afternoon treats!
When we were had our Fixer Upper Fix (ha) we walked around the block (about an 5 minute walk) to this large building that had the spice market. You have to go up these steep stairs to get to the second floor that contained the unique market place.
I had a BLAST up there! It was such a funky and unique store with tons of little boutiques set up. I wondered for about an hour up there and found a lot of great finds! My husband was not as happy but I sure was lol. I actually got about 15 items (including a high rated hair oil) for only $34!!! There was so much 60% off clearance items.
I would highly recommend stopping by this place and getting some cute house decor. Side note: we found things here that magnolia market sold but for half the price….crazy right?! Sorry to burst your bubble…Magnolia market sells things for super inflated prices that you could actually get at Marshall’s for 1/3 of the cost. But still cute and worth it to say you bought something from there!
This place would also be great to get any funky gifts for people too. Here were a few of our favorites:
Our last stop on the trip was to see the Dr. Pepper museum. Dr. Pepper was actually created in Waco and they had a really cool historic museum and ice cream shop.
Due to time, we opted to just quickly walk around the area and not do the tour. But if were to go it is $10 an adult, $6 for students and seniors and $4 for children. They also have speciality tours (like creating you own soda lab) that you can schedule online and they were actually a few dollars cheaper than the normal tour).
Karolis and I actually do not drink soda so coming here was not something super crazy cool to us, but anytime we travel, we like to learn about the history of the town. Dr. pepper was a huge part of Waco’s history so it was fun to learn a little bit more!
So that was our Waco Day Trip! It was fun to do a little weekend trip again. Look forward to more weekend trips soon! I’ll be posting a detailed blog post about Magnolia soon and then next weekend we are off to Big Bend National Park in southern Texas!
